Born To Swing – Lillian Hardin Armstrong, arr. Brian Lawrence
Commissioned by the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band. Seattle, WA. Hannah Mowry, Director.
This is a fun and accessible swing chart for any high school jazz ensemble. All parts have solo changes, making it accessible for anyone in the ensemble to solo.
Instrumentation:
- 8 brass (4 trumpet, 3 tenor trombone, 1 bass trombone)
- 5 saxophones (2 alto, 2 tenor, 1 baritone)
- Short double on Clarinet for Alto 1. Optional alto transposition provided
- Rhythm section (guitar, piano, electric bass, drum set)
Instrument Ranges:
- Trumpet 1 to concert C6
- Trombone 1 to G4
Solos:
- In all parts
- Short clarinet solo in Alto 1 (Can be played on alto)
